On 27 February 1937 Tamil League was created in a modest room in Louis Pasteur Street. Since then it moved quarters in rented space on several occasions: Quay Store, Labourdonnais Square (1944), Desforges Street (1948) and Corderie St. (1949)

Between 1937 and 1950, there were periods where the League had no fixed quarters and had meetings and activities at Hindu Maha Sabha, Poudriere St., and Champ de Lord Government School (now Raoul Rivet G.S).

The League started giving free tuition to secondary schools students.

The League won the Second Prize at the Youth Drama Festival with Greek Aristophanes play “ The Frogs”

The idea of purchasing a building dawned in the mind of the Leaders. The first move at fund raising started with a paid show of the play Sacrifice. Fund raising activities continued with the organisation of a Fancy Fair every year.
1956
95th birthday of Rabindranath Tagore was celebrated, the highlight being the staging of the play The King and the Queen.

Tamil League finally bought a wooden building at the cost of Rs. 17,000 at 17 Church St., Port Louis

From 1987 to March 1995, due to lack of premises of its own, meetings were held at Mr. T.Canarapen’s house, the Union Tamoule de Maurice, the Mariamen kovil at Réduit and the present building while it was under construction.

In collaboration with the Indian Academy of South Africa, hosted the Veeramani brothers who gave very successful performances of Tamil devotional songs. Subsequently, the League sponsored several visits of Kannen Veermani for programmes of devotional song
